Finding Cubicle Comfort
: Working in a Cubicle Calls for Good Etiquette
By Elite Business Communications

Space is a coveted commodity is today’s workplace. Shared space takes on a whole new meaning when it comes to working in a cubicle. Finding comfort in a cubicle requires careful planning and compromise. Here are five tips to ensure that the space you share does not become too close for comfort.

See no evil
When visiting a coworker’s cubicle avoid peering at their paperwork. Frequent glances at their computer screen may not be welcomed. Always respect a person’s personal space.

Hear no evil
Avoid using your speakerphone. Instead use meeting rooms to discuss confidential information. Step outside to use your cell phone for personal calls or keep your voice low.

Smell no evil
Strong odors like onions, garlic, or spicy chicken curry can permeate an office and may offend coworkers. If you plan to consume something with a pungent smell, think about eating it in the break room or other convenient location.

Keep your area neat
Your cubicle is a reflection of you. Keep your area tidy and remember your cubicle is an open house for all to see.

Knock before entering
Don’t barge in and engage in conversation with your colleague without asking permission. If your colleague appears to be too busy to talk, ask when he’s available and make an appointment if necessary.
