Born and raised in Oregon and Wyoming, graduated BYU with a BS in Accounting. I'm married with 4 daughters, ages 2 to 17. I worked for Kinko's Graphics while going to school and on graduation I joined the Kinko's International team and was sent to Nagoya, Japan to open the first Kinko's outside North America.
Based on the success of the Japan stores, Kinko's decided to expand to other countries. I was able to help Kinko's open stores in South Korea and Australia. |
After Kinko's was sold in 1998, the international growth plans were put on hold. I received an offer with Flow International, a high-pressure waterjet tool company. Flow was having difficulty in their Japan division so my primary job was to go over there and restructure the company. After completing the restructuring of the Japan office, I accepted a job running Flow Asia, which included a factory in Taiwan and a sales office in Shanghai.

But my lifelong ambition was to run my own company. When I turned 36, I decided it was time to leave the comfort of corporate America . I figured I should start a company I knew something about and decided on helping people and corporations print books in a cost-effective way using on-demand printing. The equipment we needed to serve these customers was similar to the equipment we had used at Kinko's, but our target market was quite different.

We initially called the company Zenzoeys and we opened our doors on May 1, 2002. Zenzoeys is a mixture of the Japanese word "Zen" and the Greek word "Zoey." Zen has many meanings in Japanese, but the two most common are "All" and "Good." Zoey in Greek (spelled just Zoe, I think) means "Life." So Zenzoeys means "All the Good Life." Zenzoeys was either a name our customers loved or hated. My partner loved the name, but I didn't like it too much even though I came up with it at 3 am one morning. The name was unique, but it was almost impossible for customers to spell.
In February of 2005, we decided to change our name to ZDocs (Zenzoeys Document Services). We had started doing quite a bit of business online with our website and we soon realized we needed a name that was easier for our customers to remember.
We are now entering our 5th year of business and we are settling nicely into our niche of helping people print and promote books. While we have both individual customers and corporate customers, 95% of what we produce are books. In April of this year, we plan to launch a new web service called RazorPages. We are partnering with Innovations (International for this new venture. RazorPages is an alternative publishing company focused on helping people sell books through our internet marketing system.
