The rise of Web Series

Friday, October 21st, 2011 by shahar

We’ve been speaking on this topic in most of our speaking engagements and telling people what a great opportunity this is for small businesses as part of their small business marketing strategies.

Now Blip Tv and Dynamic logic have provided some data on the viewership of Web TV series.

According to the research, cable TV is seeing viewing drop off in this particular demographic (Blip.tv viewers) of around 9% compared to six months prior and that same demographics is watching around 26% more online video (via PC), 19% more on mobile devices and 18% more on video consoles.

Original online video content is replacing the standard TV watching time. The most common time to watch online web series is 8-11pm with 6-8pm just behind it.
banner ads were reported as being most favorable for original web series viewers (35%).
Pre-rolls came in second with just 15% stating they preferred them which means that those mid-rolls that some places are so fond of probably aren’t all that popular.
the average viewer of a web series is 33-years-old, college-educated (60%) and almost evenly divided between men (51%) and women (49%).

When should you post your online videos?

Friday, July 8th, 2011 by shahar

That is another question related to social media marketing and online videos.
As in any media, online videos also have a prime time.

First you need to answer if your videos are for general use of the end consumer, like people watching from home or if it is to be watched by a business audience, during work hours.

Second you need to take into consideration where in the world the majority of your audience is and take into consideration the time frame there.

Prime time to post online videos:

For home audience: Between 4pm and 9pm

For a business audience: 7am to 9am, 11am to 1pm, 3pm to 5pm

You should avoid posting outside these frames

Americans watching more online videos

Saturday, July 2nd, 2011 by shahar

Gaining its share of some of this increased internet audience, the online video market continued to gain
momentum in 2010, with an average of 179 million Americans watching video each month, according to a
new white paper from comScore. Engagement levels also rose during the year, with viewers watching online
videos more frequently.
Americans also spent about 12% more hours viewing online video in 2010 (14.2) compared the prior year
(12.7) due to increased content consumption and more video ad streams. The average American streamed a
record 201 videos in December 2010, up 8% from 187 a year earlier.

77% goes to Youtube while 3.1% goes to Hulu

Did I mentioned all businesses should be using online videos in their social media marketing efforts. Let me say that in different words: Small business marketing needs to contain online videos.

A “connected” entertainment ecosystem is the ultimate goal. For example, if you buy a TV show on your smartphone and begin watching it, when you get home you can turn on your TV or tablet and pick up exactly where you left off. YouTube Marketing Tips – Using Playlists

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010 by The BuzzBooster Team!

This is part of a post by Reelseo that I think you guys would benefit from.

You’ve probably seen playlists in action. Many of you have likely created one for yourself. And YouTube thinks you should all be using them, because Playlists are fantastic ways to guide your new viewers through your content the way you prefer them to experience it. You can help them discover older videos they might have missed or highlight your personal greatest hits.

Here’s a real great nugget you might not have known: Playlists are indexed separately from individual videos. Which means that you double your chances of a video being found through search if you have it in a playlist. Outstanding. (Don’t forget to add the proper metadata to your playlist to increase its chances of being found!).

They also recommend creating themes to build your playlists around—rather than just lumping a bunch of unrelated videos together in a list. Good tip. Even if you have straggler videos that you want to roll into a playlist to try and get more attention, you’ve got to be sensible about how you group your playlist vids together if you want them to have the maximum impact.
