Some months ago, one of my friends came over to our office to try to figure out "what" it is I do for a living. (Have you ever tried to explain "internet marketing" to a friend?)
Funny Thing, it happens all the time with us.
I had tried to explain it to him on the phone, but he was completely lost and wanted to actually "see" what it was. So when he got here I showed him some of our strategies and he was impressed, but then he saw one thing that almost knocked him off his feet.
I showed him what these strategies were doing for our business and how some of them were generating a lot of passive income.
Although he was excited I could see there was something bothering him. He told me he was afraid that only a geek could do that.
Baby, that is always where I get excited. I just showed him how easy some of these tools where and how powerful too. He’s a left brainner, so he got a calculator and there he was, touching pads for a couple of minutes. I was just staring at him with a big '?' on my face.
He finally said: "You know what? Just with this last tool you showed me, that is not going to cost me a fraction of an ad in a phone book, and I can make at least $20.000. I’m talking about just this last one. You’re a genius!
Boy, I like to hear that! You know, Nash and I are both Leos and leos are famous for enjoying compliments. We have quite an ego you know. ;0)
He was so excited, he couldn't wait to start... but that is what makes me sad. Most people have a hard time to understand that one isolated thing done without a plan behind it, won’t take them anywhere.
I explained to him that the right approach is not different than going to the doctor. You start with a check up. To see where you stand and what your needs are.
Then, there is a prescription and a treatment that is given to you, and that you are supposed to follow in an exact manner. If you don’t, the results won’t be good or will cause more damage.
You usually don’t take just one aspirin and go to bed. There may be some diet or exercise involved, some other medicine, some tests and scans, and you check with the doctor from time to time to see if something needs to be changed.
The entire approach and the commitment to follow what was prescribed to you is what will lead you to good health. Exactly the same thing here.
It is no use to tell you about books, ebooks, pay-per-click, social media and hundreds of other possibilities if you don’t first see where you are, which tool applies to your industry and how and when to use them.
My friend was going from one side of our office to the other saying "yes, yes, Shahar, let’s do it, let’s do it". And so we did.
Well, a month later he storms into our office with some papers in hand saying: "Look at this, this is a monthly contract of $40,000.00! I told you, you are a genius"!
I said: "Good, it is time you take me to dinner. I’d like some sushi today!
Last month he stormed in again with another big contract. And then he bought a folder to file all of his leads, the folder was so full he just couldn’t find time to do the follow up.
I said: "Maybe Lasagna now?" - What can I say, I’ve been gaining a few more pounds lately. When you come to our office, I’ll be glad to introduce Phil Davis to you, we have offices in the same building.
